From the Victoria and Albert Museum web-site : 'Wilson, Keppel and Betty formed the greatest eccentric dance act of all time. Wilson and Keppel were two doleful, gangling, moustachioed, skinny-legged and obviously English men. They wore parodies of Eastern dress, usually a fez and a short nightshirt, revealing their scrawny legs.

Jack Wilson (1894-1970) was English, born in Liverpool; Joe Keppel (1895-1977) was Irish. They teamed up in Australia after the First World War, journeyed to America, and formed the trio with Betty Knox in 1928.

Jack Wilson (30 January 1894 - 29 August 1970) was born in Warrington in Lancashire as John William Wilson, the son of a tanner; on leaving school Jack also worked as a tanner. During World War I Wilson served with the Royal Navy following which he travelled to Australia, where he joined Colleano 's Circus in 1920. [1]

Her early career was in American vaudeville and British variety as the original 'Betty' (1928-1941) of Wilson, Keppel and Betty - a dance trio who performed slick comedy routines in Egyptian dress, including the Sand Dance and the Dance of the Seven Veils.
